The Sixth Workshop on
Numerical Ranges and Numerical Radii
Department of Mathematics,
Auburn University
June 7 (Friday) - June 8 (Saturday), 2002.
Reported by Chi-Kwong Li and Tin-Yau Tam
The Sixth workshop on ``Numerical Ranges and Numerical Radii'',
sponsored by the Auburn University,
was held on June 7-8, 2002, in conjunction with the Tenth
International Linear Algebra Conference, June 10-13, 2002.
The workshop took place in Parker Hall, where the
mathematics department is located, of Auburn University.
The two day meeting began with an opening remarks by
Dr. Stew Schneller (Dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics,
Auburn University)
and Dr. Michel Smith (Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Auburn
University).
Eighteen talks on different aspects of numerical ranges and radii were given.
See program and abstracts
in http://www.math.wm.edu/~ckli/pgm.pdf for details.
A workshop photo was taken in front of the Parker Hall,
and a workshop dinner took place in
the evening on June 7 at the China Palace restaurant.
There were about three dozen participants
for the workshop from more than ten different countries (see
the appended list).
Similar to the previous meetings, participants
exchanged many ideas, results and problems on the subject
in a very friendly atmosphere. Furthermore, it was
announced that Numerical Range would be one of the themes
in the ``Topics in Linear Algebra Conference''
held at Iowa State University, September 13-14, 2002.
One may contact Leslie Hogben (lhogben@iastate.edu)
or Yiu-Tung Poon (ytpoon@iastate.edu) for details.
