Course description

Textbook: R.A. Horn and C.R. Johnson, Matrix Analysis, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1985.

The whole book will be covered.
Supplementary notes may be added for different treatments or different emphases of the topics.

Homework will be assigned every lecture and due the following Tuesday.

Challenging problems will be assigned from time to time;
extra-credits will be given to successful attempts.

Math 508 students have to do a class project. Math 408 students may choose to one also.
The projects may lead to research opportunities supported by NSF.

     Quizzes (20 min. each) on Sept. 10, 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 5, 19.
    
     Exams:  Mid-term   Oct. 8    1:20 hrs    (11:00-12:20 p.m.)
             Final      Dec. 7    3    hrs    (2:00-5:00 p.m.)
