(Jones Hall 119, 221-2025, jhdrew@math.wm.edu)

Information for
Declaring a Mathematics Major
First print a Declaration of
Major form, which can be found on the University Registrar's
website. Then visit the Math Department Office (Jones 114) to
determine who your Major advisor will be. Complete
the Declaration of Major form with the assistance of your Major
advisor. Have your Major advisor sign the completed form.
Then deliver the form to the University Registrar's Office.
The specific requirements for majoring in Mathematics and details about
various concentrations within the Mathematics Department can found in
the Undergraduate Course Catalog and in the Mathematics Undergraduate
Advising Handbook.
Information for Declaring a Mathematics Minor
First complete the
Declaration of Academic Minor Application form, which is available at
the Math Department Office (Jones 114). Then submit the completed
form to the Math Department Office for approval. After the form
has been approved and signed by the Minor advisor, deliver the form to
the University Registrar's Office.
Typically, students fulfill the Minor requirement in Mathematics by
taking four courses out of Math 111, 112, 131, 132, 211, 212, 213, 214
and two courses out of Math 302, 323, 345, 351, 352. However,
many other possibilities exist, and any set of courses that satisfy the
requirements listed in Undergraduate Course Catalog is
acceptable. The Math Department routinely allows students to use
CSCI 243 (Discrete Structures) in place of Math 214 (Foundations of
Mathematics) in the above list of courses.
