README for the airport design program and its wind data files The self-unzipping file wind.exe should be downloaded. Verify that the file extension of the downloaded version is .exe, correcting that extension as necessary. When wind.exe is executed on a PC, a set of runway data will be expanded. This data will be directly accessible by the FAA airport design program, version 4.2D. It is probably a good idea to make a directory, say, \ad, for ad42d, and then a subdirectory for the wind data, say, \ad\adb. Store (or copy) wind.exe in the adb subdirectory and execute it from there. Then all these wind data files will be separated from the program files. AD42D may itself be downloaded (in zipped form) from the FAA web-site, http://www.faa.gov/arp/arphome.htm. Look for the file, AD42D.ZIP. Follow instructions there. It is best to unzip this file in \ad. For comparison of the results of an AD42D study and an acual runway layout, it is simplest to go to www.naco.faa.gov where these diagrams are available on-line. The web-site of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, www.aopa.org, also has links to these diagrams.
